Wapello County Sheriff’s Office Hiring: Full-Time Deputy Sheriff (2 Positions)

The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for two (2) full-time Deputy Sheriff positions. All minimum Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) hiring standards apply. The hiring process will include an oral interview, MMPI testing, and a thorough background investigation.
Certification & Testing Requirements: Applications should be turned in immediately.
- Non-ILEA certified applicants must successfully pass the POST written examination and physical fitness testing.
- ILEA-certified officers with a break in law enforcement service of 180 days or more must pass the ILEA physical fitness standards.
- Applicants not currently ILEA certified will be contacted by the Sheriff’s Office to schedule POST and physical testing.
- Only applications received before February 26th, 2026, will be eligible for the next testing date. Physical and POST Testing will take place Friday, March 13th, 2026.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting salary: $65,000 – $86,000 per year, depending on experience
- Certified officer pay and vacation determined by years of service
- 11 paid holidays
- Work schedule: Six (6) days on / three (3) days off, 8-hour shifts
- All uniforms and department equipment provided
